Ancient traces of Roman fortress were discovered
Experts said it was necessary to conduct further excavation to determine the scale and location of the fortress.
Kier Construction workers found a Roman ditch during the construction of a bus stop in Exeter, UK, BBC reported on September 26. Upon closer excavation, experts discovered two more large moats lying parallel to each other. It is a vestige of an ancient fortress or defensive structure.

"This is a very important and completely unexpected finding in a place that has changed a lot due to its post-war redevelopment activity. This, together with recent discoveries at Exeter, shows the history of the city. are kept in the impossibly impossible place, despite the damage caused by bombs and modern concrete structures , " said Andrew Pye, an archaeologist at Exeter City Council.
Professor Stephen Rippon at the University of Exeter said it was difficult to predict exactly how big the fortress was or where the rest were . "That's why conducting excavations is so important , " he said.
Exeter City Council confirmed the excavation will not affect the construction progress. In addition to the remains of the old fortress, the expert team also found many coins, locally made pottery and tableware imported from France.
