Antarctic fish stocks are showing signs of decline
The Union of Environmental Organizations has issued a statement calling for protection of the marine environment in the Ross Sea in Antarctica to prevent the development of the seafood industry, which may affect the ecosystem here. .
The Antarctic Alliance says the water around the ice sheets is facing the risk of landslides, while fish stocks are showing signs of decreasing. The alliance, which is represented by organizations such as Greenpeace, the Wildlife Fund or the HSI, has proposed protecting 3.6 million square kilometers at the Ross Sea.
The amount of fish in Antarctica is decreasing significantly
Mr. Chuck Fox, an adviser to the alliance, said the Ross Sea is one of the most important and protected marine environments in the world.
Fox added that the United States and New Zealand have already proposed ways to protect the Ross Sea, but these options are still incomplete and do not mention much of the commercial fishing activities in the area.
According to reports of organizations, the Ross Sea is home to many animals, from seals, whales to birds. However, due to the impacts of climate change and fishing activities over the years, the environment in Ross Sea is undergoing rapid changes.
