Scientists have long known that ice shelves are melting and that the cause of this phenomenon is due to shattered icebergs off the continental shelves.

However, their new research shows that much of the melting of ice occurs from the bottom, not on the ice.

According to the lead author of this study, Eric Rignot of the Propulsion Laboratory of the US Aerospace Agency (NASA) and the University of California, the study of scientists showed that melting of ice from the side under due to warming in the oceans, it was more and more and this changed their assessment of ice evolution in a hot climate.

According to the scientists, Antarctic ice shelves were reduced by an average of 1.325 trillion tons per year between 2003 and 2008 due to melting of ice.
