Freshwater jellyfish that are considered "living fossils" or "water pandas", "peach blossom jellyfish" are believed to have appeared on Earth more than 100 million years ago, before dinosaurs appeared.
The government of Jining City, Shandong Province, where the jellyfish lake was discovered, directed a special group to monitor and protect these rare freshwater jellyfish.
Because of the unusual genes, freshwater jellyfish play a very important role in modern genome research projects and are classified by the scientists as the highest endangered species.
Freshwater jellyfish often appear in clean water areas. And their presence in large numbers shows that there has been an improvement in the local ecological environment.
