Approaching the approach to effective treatment of psoriasis

Ben Gurion University of Israeli scientists are close to finding a recipe for a drug that can cure skin diseases associated with autoimmune mechanisms, called psoriasis.

The study, led by Professor Amir Aharoni of the Life Sciences department, has found a way to prevent the typical inflammation and flaking of psoriasis.

According to Professor Aharoni, psoriasis appears due to the natural imbalance between inflammatory and anti-inflammatory signs.

The team sought to prevent protein cell division called IL17 . This type of protein causes inflammation and when the body produces this protein at a high level, the body responds. Researchers have developed a protein called IL17R that prevents the production of IL17.

Israeli researchers completed the first phase study in laboratory mice infected with infected human skin. However, it will take a long time for this method to begin testing on patients.

Professor Aharoni said, although the experiments on mice were almost 100% successful, the healing process in this direction has only just begun and it is not possible to predict how many more years it will take to complete. This healing method.

According to Professor Aharoni, the positive test results opened up a new research direction for other diseases related to autoimmunity and cancer. His team has also begun to study arthritis because it is believed that protein therapy is useful in treating this disease.
