Approving the natural disaster prevention, fighting and reduction strategy till 2020
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved the National Strategy for Natural Disaster Prevention, Response and Mitigation to 2020.
Accordingly, the natural disaster prevention, fighting and reduction work will be carried out in accordance with the guideline that the State and people work together, effectively use the State's resources, and mobilize all community resources and of the community. domestic and foreign organizations and individuals.
The general objective of the Strategy is to mobilize all resources to effectively implement natural disaster prevention, fighting and reduction from now to 2020, to minimize human and property losses and limit the undermining natural resources, environment and cultural heritage, making an important contribution to ensuring the country's sustainable development, ensuring national defense and security.

The strategy is to improve the capacity to forecast storms, floods, droughts, saline intrusion, earthquake reports, tsunami warnings and dangerous meteorological and hydrological phenomena. The focus is to increase the time for forecasting storms and tropical low pressures to 72 hours.
In order to achieve the goal, the Strategy set out 9 groups of common tasks and solutions, 5 groups of tasks and solutions for natural disaster prevention, fighting and reduction for each region.
The first task is to build and improve the system of laws and policies on natural disaster mitigation and mitigation. To promulgate policies on disaster relief for each region, such as living with floods, flood diversion, slow flooding and high-risk areas for flash floods and landslides .; adopt policies to encourage scientific and technological activities, attract investment, international cooperation, mobilize resources . for natural disaster prevention, fighting and reduction.
The State encourages the application of advanced scientific and technological achievements to improve the forecasting, warning and communication capabilities; improve research capacity to monitor the changes of the earth, changes of nature in the region and territory; encourage the application of new technologies and new materials in the field of natural disaster prevention, fighting and reduction.
The strategy also stated, step by step developing the science of natural disasters: Emergency, disaster management, sustainable development, disaster health, production recovery and environment after natural disasters.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Combat shall assume the prime responsibility for organizing the implementation of the National Strategy for Natural Disaster Prevention, Response and Mitigation to 2020.
