Disaster response for Dung Quat oil refinery

Natural disasters are increasingly complicated, there is a need to respond to disasters as a problem raised in the workshop on environmental safety and fire prevention for Dung Quat factory, taking place April 21 in Quang Ngai.

Hundreds of experts and engineers are domestic and foreign contractors, members of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) attend the seminar. This is the first time PetroVietnam has organized an in-depth workshop on the safety of Dung Quat oil refinery, the Government-recognized project on national security.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Giang, General Director of Binh Son Refining - Petrochemical Co., Ltd. said at the workshop: 'Natural disasters are increasingly unusual, so the group has just decided to set up a specialized research team for solutions. disaster disaster, which does not eliminate earthquakes and tsunamis'.

Dung Quat oil refinery is designed with modern technology, processing capacity of 148,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The project uses more than 800 pressure tank equipment, more than 5,000 km of technological pipelines and about 4,000 devices used for automatic fire alarm and emergency stop systems. With the unique characteristics of the factory, many devices have working conditions at high pressure, high temperature, many factors causing corrosion, abrasion and explosive substances.

According to Mr. Giang, this is an opportunity to exchange experiences, ensure safety, environmental health and fire prevention and fighting activities of Dung Quat oil refinery, works with potential risks of fire and explosion. and the highest security and safety in Vietnam today.

In addition to developing a plan to cope with natural disasters, many delegates also proposed corrosion mapping for inspection and corrosion monitoring at the Dung Quat refinery. Due to the items, this plant is mainly located close to the sea, so the risk of corrosion and oxidation of equipment will happen quickly.

The representative of the Petroleum Institute analyzed and eroded map is a collection of data showing the speed of corrosion of equipment and piping systems, technology in the whole Dung Quat oil refinery. This allows making recommendations about the life of the equipment system as well as maintenance, repair or replacement time.

Talking to VnExpress.net yesterday afternoon, Mr. Truong Van Tan, Deputy Director of the Environmental Control Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment proposed the solution: ' It is necessary to review the construction items; establishing monitoring process, managing integrated three elements: safety, health and environment must be synchronized. In the next few years, when the wear and tear of machinery and equipment starts to arise environmental problems '.
