Pinecone fish (pinecone fish) is a common name for fish species of the Monocentridae family, distributed in variable areas extending from South Japan to Australia, including part of the South China Sea. Monocentridae is a small and unusual marine fish family of Beryciformes. This family has only four species in two genera, one of which is single species.

Their shape is very special, the body is covered with large, hard and thick scales, like an armor. Scales on the back of this fish also have sharp spines towards the tail, a way to effectively protect the attacks from behind. When in danger, pine fish can spread their fins, turning them into sharp blades.

Shaggy, sharp appearance, they look like "armored cars" in the open sea. Other fish species must also be " fed up" when encountering this fish, almost no predator can catch it. This fish is hidden in coral reefs and rock holes.
