South China Sea: The world's most dangerous ocean

The South China Sea is ranked first in the list of the world's most dangerous oceans according to a new study by a group of scientists from Southamton Solent University.

Research is based on statistics on shipwreck accidents occurring at sea.

Most of the causes of accidents are not caused by collisions but due to leaks or sunk waves.

Accordingly, the world's most dangerous ocean is the South China Sea, East India Sea, North Sea and the Brisish Isles Islands, the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.

According to statistics, between 1999 and 2011, most shipwreck accidents in the world occurred in the above oceans. In particular, the South China Sea and East India Sea led the number of shipwreck accidents with 293 cases. These are also areas with high biodiversity, home to 75% of the world's coral.

According to scientists, most of the causes of the accident are not due to collisions but due to leaks or sinking waves.

"These are the top places of accident because of the flow of unusual flows, boats are difficult to control their way," said Dr. Simon Walmsley from the World Wildlife Fund.

In addition, the study also predicts climate change will exacerbate causes of shipwrecks such as storms, wind / wave changes, extreme weather.
