Artificial synapse like paper
Chinese scientists have successfully built a device, which looks like a piece of paper, mimicking the process of electrochemical signaling in the human brain.
This is a thin film semiconductor device (TFT) used to regenerate joints between two neurons, which are considered a biological synapse. TFT can become an important component in the development of artificial neural networks, and can be applied to a wide range of areas from robotics to computer technology development.
This TFT artificial synapse device includes indium zinc oxide (IZO), made into a channel and electrode gate, separated by a thin membrane of electrolyte, SiO 2 silicon dioxide nanoparticles thick about 550 nanometers. This thin film is produced by chemical vapor deposition method .
This TFT device is the latest device to be built, as thin as a sheet of paper, with the function of making the electronic system flexible, with low production costs and more environmentally friendly.
A collaborator of the study, Qing Wan, School of Electronic Science and Engineering at Nanjing University, China, said: "This paper-thin synapse can be used to build Artificial neural networks are lightweight and biologically friendly, and with the advantages of flexibility and biocompatibility, they can be used to create organic interfaces in many biological applications ".
