Stone tools are all made from river and stream stone with typical characteristics of Hoa Binh cultural tools.(Illustration).
Here, the surveying archaeological team conducted a survey on an area of 5m2 in the area near the center of the main cave. Through the section of the excavated pit, the cultural layer where the thickest part is still 70cm. The total number of stone artifacts and bones collected in the excavation pit as well as the surface is 73 relics; in which: there are 71 stone relics, 1 key bone service belonging to prehistoric times, 1 stone bullet of Le Mac period. In addition, the archaeological team also discovered more than 100 pieces of ceramics, mainly in the Le Mac period.
From the stone artifacts obtained shows that stone tools are made from river and stream stone with the characteristic of Hoa Binh cultural tools , such as short, oval, small tongue to hold hands. Thin pieces of stone, 1 thick edge to hold, 1 thin beveled surface are rough cutting tools, rough scraping. Crushed pestles and many pieces of stone stripped are made of crude chippers.
Relics are animal bones and mollusc shells of river snails, mussel shells, mussels and relics are some of the nuts that have been found, the remnants of the prehistoric people left. In addition, some relics are sharp-edged animal limb bones used as tools for hunting and cutting meat.
In particular, among the relics found, there is a small rectangular stone, on the surface there are traces of 3 small circular holes evenly spaced. This relic is often found in the cultural relics of Hoa Binh - Bac Son in the northern mountains. Up to now, the function and real meaning of this relic are still a mystery to archeology.
From the relics discovered , Puong Cave is the place of residence of people of many different historical periods , the earliest residents of Hoa Binh culture dating to about 8,000-9,000 years ago. .
The discovery of traces of prehistoric people at Puong Tho cave is an archaeological evidence, contributing to affirming that people have been constantly and continuously residing since prehistoric times to date in Ba Be land in particular, Bac Ninh province. Kan in general.
