Bacteria in the gut causing obesity?
The ' culprit ' of obesity is most likely the bacteria in the gut, according to studies published Nature released yesterday. Through research, scientists at Washington University (USA) have discovered in humans and mice obese, the proportion of bacteria named Bacteroidetes is quite low while the rate of Firmicutes bacteria is higher.
In many cases, they found that when Bacteroidetes bacteria increased, their weight decreased.
This also means that someday scientists will be able to find new therapies for treating obesity more effectively than exercising and applying miserable abstinence. The finding may also open up a new way to combat malnutrition by changing the ratio of these bacteria in the gut and stomach.
