A new study shows curiosity plays a big role in student achievement, according to Top News.

Experts from the University of Edinburgh (UK) said that in fact, personality traits such as curiosity seem to be as important as intelligence in determining students' learning ability.

Intelligence is important for academic achievement, but it is not all because children are smart when they study nothing at school, and someone with normal intelligence succeeds the diligence.

Therefore, psychological scientists start looking for other factors besides intelligence that make some students learn better than others.

Sophie von Stumm and colleagues wondered if curiosity could be another important factor.

'Curiosity is basically a desire to discover. If you are curious about knowledge, you will go home and read books. If you are curious about the perceptual side, you can travel abroad and try different dishes , ' explained Ms. von Stumm. Both, according to her thoughts, can help you learn better at school.

The researchers conducted a meta-analysis, collecting data from about 200 studies on a total of about 50,000 students and students.

They find that curiosity really affects their academic achievement. In fact, it has a pretty big impact, with the same level of devotion. When combined, dedication and curiosity greatly influence academic achievement as intelligence.

The results of the study are published in the Journal of Psychological Science Perspectives on the American Psychological Science Association.
