Bioterrorism Prevention Device

US scientists have developed a new device for detecting biological agents. This could be a valuable asset in the fight against bioterrorism.

Scientists have just launched a 'biogas detection' device. This device allows the fight against possible bioterrorism. This news was published in the journal Analytical Chemistry on January 1, 2006, a prestigious scientific journal.

Researchers from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in LLNL, California, have developed the new detection device.

This device can provide early warning to help prevent explosions and to cure victims before they have severe poisoning symptoms .

Airplanes, high-rise buildings, train stations, sports facilities ... are places where bioterrorism is easily attacked in a quiet and invisible way.

According to TS. John Dzenitis, a LLNL chemist, Autodesk Pathogen Detection System (APDS), constantly monitors the air. This system is like a smoke detector in a fire prevention device.

It can automatically detect and identify three types of biological agents: bacteria, viruses and biological toxins such as anthrax, plague, etc.

LLNL has been researching this device since 1995, but the new device has been tested at the US Dugway Naval Base in Utah, which is considered a breakthrough.
