The volunteer cleaned up the dead bird and saved the wounded. By midday yesterday they had saved more than 3,000 live birds and released them into a lake. No one counted how many children died, but officials estimated that number to be about 1,500.

'They fall everywhere. The phenomenon of falling birds continues. Our employees drove around the city to pick them up. Many residents also bring birds to our headquarters , 'said Teresa Griffin, director of Utah's wildlife protection program.

Officials have not received notice of injury or property damage caused by birds.

Kevin McGowan, a bird researcher at Cornell's Center for Learning in New York State, said that birds rarely rush into the ground, even if they mistakenly believe the land is water.

This is not a bird fall in the US this year. In January, about 500 red-winged black-and-red flukes were discovered in two areas on the highway in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Earlier, on the last day of 2010, about 2,000 black birds fell from the sky to the ground in the city of Beebe in the state of Arkansas.
