Half a century, North America alone lost 3 billion birds
Scientists say the number of birds in the US and Canada has dropped by an astounding 29%, or nearly 3 billion, since 1970 . This is a sign that the ecological crisis is spreading.

AFP cited the study as saying that 12 species of birds had reduced their numbers by more than 90%, including sparrows, warblers, thrushes and large beak sparrows.
Birds living on grasslands are most affected by the disappearance of grasslands and steppes, as well as the increase in agricultural land and pesticide use affecting the food chain.
Forest birds and species that can live in many different ecological areas are less affected.
This situation is also happening in many places, especially in France, where the National Biodiversity Agency estimates that prairie birds fell by 30% between 1989 and 2017.
