For the first time, astrophysicists at the University of Geneva in Switzerland discovered a black hole swallowing a planet with an estimated mass of 15 times Jupiter.
This event occurred at the center of the galaxy NGC 4845 , about 47 million light-years from us, observed by scientists thanks to the Integral satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA) which surveyed objects cosmic bodies with gamma rays.
During the survey, scientists noticed the light signal emitted from a black hole in the center of the galaxy NGC 4845 has been resting for 30 years. This black hole wakes up and swallows the planet.
The black hole takes 2 to 3 months to redirect and swallow 10% of the aforementioned planetary mass, the rest breaks and exists in orbit.
The team thinks that the galaxy's black hole 4845 has a mass of 300,000 solar masses.
