Named Plastiki, the boat started off in San Francisco (USA) in March 2010 and crossed the Pacific Ocean, then passed Western Samoa and New Caledonia before arriving in Australia.
Plastiki is 18m long, made from 12,500 used bottles. Many other parts of the boat are also recycled materials such as sails, masts .
Environmental activist David de Rothschild, 31, and five others made the trip to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic waste to the environment. "This is an incredible adventure , " Rothschild said after landing.
According to the BBC, hundreds of supporters flocked to Sydney port to welcome Plastiki and the crew.
