Boats are powered by sunflower oil!

The Italian farmers have built the first boat in the world machine run by sunflower oil - a kind of "biofuels" may replace the polluting fuels today.

This boat was used to patrol Lake Como in northern Italy during an international conference on agriculture and food in the town of Cernobbio .

Recent studies have shown that sunflower oil is less energy-efficient than conventional fuels and prices are competitive.

According to the president of the Coldiretti Farmers' Association , Paolo Bedoni, this technique can easily be used in small boats, agricultural machines, minivans, buses and even cars.

According to the calculations, a farmer can produce about 3,000 kg of sunflower seeds per hectare and from 3,000 kg of this can give about 1,300 kg of oil. The price per kilogram of sunflower oil is about 50 cents, equivalent to the price of diesel.
