Based on fossils, scientists estimate the dinosaur is dated about 80 million years ago.

This dinosaur named Maxakalisaurus , belongs to Titanosauria , is a herbivore. They are 13 meters long and weigh 9 tons. Based on the teeth mark on the fossils, scientists believe that this dinosaur is a prey of carnivorous dinosaurs.

The Maxakalisaurus has a small head, but has a large body and long tail. "This is the largest dinosaur ever discovered in Brazil," said Alexander Kellner, the team leader.

These fossils are from the end of the white chalk and were discovered during excavations from 1998-2002. The reconstructed skeleton of the Maxakalisaurus is on display at the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro.
