Displaying the oldest fossil samples in history in Brazil

Coming to Santana do Cariri Museum of the City of Cariri in the Brazilian state of Ceara these days, visitors will admire the oldest fossil discovered in this country and many fossils of the birds another history.

Brazil exhibits the oldest fossil record in history

This fossil of a small bird (6 cm long skeleton) dating to about 115 million years, was discovered in the Araripe river delta in the state of Ceara. This is also the most complete skeleton of this bird ever found in Brazil.

Fossils are found within the framework of the joint research program between the UFRJ Geological Sciences Institute and the Argentine Natural Science Museum Bernardino Rivadavia, the Natural History Foundation Felix Azara, Araripe Geopark and the Department of National Administration mineral producer (DNPM) Brazil.

Geological expert Ismar de Souza Carvalho, the leader of the research team, confirmed the fossil finding of this small bird is "the jewel of Brazilian archeology" .

This finding changes the perception of scientists so far about the group of fossils of this species and their distribution in the world.
