Center for Technology and Environmental Management (Centema) in HCM City has just successfully tested the brick made from sewage sludge. Accordingly, mud dredged from sewers after drying will be filtered by hydraulic methods to separate organic matter (humus, logs, leaves ...) and inorganic (sand).

The sludge will continue to be sieved to remove sludge and raw materials. Smooth sand will be used as raw materials for brick lined sidewalks, wall tiles, decorations ... Leaves, decayed wood leaves are used to absorb odors for the landfill. Sludge after being treated with microorganism to extract metal is used as organic fertilizer.

Particularly for industrial sludge containing heavy metals, the research team after heating, converting sludge into powder phase to make bricks. Nguyen Thi Phuong Loan, head of the project, said that if the mud is used for recycling, the sewage sludge treatment cost will be reduced by half and will not pollute the environment. The research team is planning to build a sludge treatment plant with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year.
