Build a brick house made of paper

Recently, scientists at the University of Jaen in Spain have developed the idea of turning waste paper into bricks used in construction.

To create this particularly useful product, researchers first had to gather cellulose waste and a sludge left over from paper production in factories. These will be mixed with clay and then compressed into long rectangular bars. They will be cut into bricks and baked.

According to scientists, this special brick does not need as long as traditional brick. If they are mass produced and put into practice, they will save a lot of energy and production costs. In addition, the brick-built house is very well insulated due to its low thermal conductivity.

However, the mechanical strength of ceramic tiles is not the biggest limitation of the product. Scientists hope to be able to overcome the drawback by adding waste from brewing, olive oil or diesel.
