House with cardboard paper: Built in 1 day, using 100 years to fail

Perhaps we have to think about switching to paper boxes to make houses.

Probably no one thinks cardboard paper is a suitable construction material. However, when looking through the house below, you have to think again. Fiction Factory, a design studio in the Netherlands, has created a small house made of many layers of cardboard, which according to them, has a durability of up to hundreds of years.

This house is called Wikkelhouse.

Called Wikkelhouse , this house is made of ultra-durable corrugated cardboard paper, laminated together with an environmentally friendly adhesive.

These layers of paper will be rolled around a frame 24 times, to create a solid architecture and good insulation.

Multi-sectional design will allow users to expand the area flexible, easy to customize and assemble.

Structure of the house.

After transporting the required blocks to the construction site, the installation takes only one or two days. A layer of waterproof and breathable film called Miote x will be tucked into cardboard and the front of the house is paved with pine wood. According to the company, Wikkelhouses will have a lifetime of up to a hundred years (the Miotex section must be replaced every 30 years), but parts of the house can be easily relocated for reuse and almost everything. All parts of the house can be recycled.

Windows can be added whenever homeowners want. Interior parts such as kitchens, bathrooms can be added via separate blocks. Inside the house is covered with a layer of plywood that brings simplicity and closeness to nature.

Each block costs about 4,500 USD.

Each block cost about 4,500 USD, the cost for a house with full basic facilities is about 80,000 USD. This is not only an attractive design for mini houses, but also a breakthrough way to use monotonous corrugated cardboard as a sturdy material and good insulation for construction.

Wikkelhouse was nominated for the ARC15 Innovation Award creation award last year. Rick Buchter, director of Wikkelhouse, said: "Cardboard is a material that is underestimated. There is no construction material that is as light, hard, and well insulated as it is. Most of us only think of cardboard as "A kind of paper for use as a container. Most people think there's no way to have a cardboard house. But this is a very good material. It's just that we're not used to it."
