Canadian astronaut tested 1 week of living underwater

Jeremy Hansen, a Canadian astronaut, lives underwater for a week in preparation for research missions in space.

Jeremy Hansen has a week under water at a depth of 20m at the location of the Aquarius lab, belonging to the Florida Keys, the Atlantic Islands. During this time, Hassen made walking steps on the ocean floor, a task designed to simulate a zero gravity environment.

During a week of training that lasted from September 8 to 14, Hansen also performed diving activities at night. He and the other members experimented with the situation when they were limited in communicating with the control center. This is one of the problems astronauts may encounter when doing missions in space.

Getting rid of the habit in a familiar environment and exploring the ocean as an asteroid or Mars surface can help them prepare for missions in the air. According to Sky News, the 38-year-old astronaut is the leader of the mission to explore the harsh environment of Mars.

"The first night I slept at a depth of 20m under the ocean, I heard the sound of water moving with many strange sounds. There was a hole connected directly to the ocean and air pressure kept the water from coming in. One Among the unique things that I am very excited about here is being able to observe the life under the sea. It's like a big marine park, " said the astronaut.

The 81-ton Aquarius laboratory is designed with 6 beds, a mini kitchen, air-conditioning and wireless Internet access. When the air conditioner stops operating, the temperature here will be 35 degrees Celsius and the humidity is 95%.

Earlier, a French oceanographer named Fabien Cousteau ended his 31-day underwater expedition at Aquarius, to conduct research and promote ocean conservation activities.
