China acknowledges the reality of the terrifying environment

The Ministry of Environmental Protection of China uses the word "serious" to describe the status of environmental pollution in the annual report they just published.

In the report entitled "Environmental Conditions" , the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection said that, in general, environmental problems last year were serious, Guardian reported.

"China's air, water and soil quality have all declined significantly," the report said.

The report focuses on air and water pollution - two types of polls that are most interested in in recent months. Data in the report show that the proportion of groundwater in 198 "bad" or "extremely bad" cities accounts for 57.3% in 2012 and more than 30% of China's major rivers are "polluted" or "serious pollution" . Last year only 27 of the 113 key cities possessed a standard quality atmosphere.

"Since the beginning of last year, thick smog has covered an area of more than a million square kilometers, affecting several hundred million people," China Daily reported.

Zhou Rong, a social activist for Greenpeace, said that China's pollution has been aggravated earlier this year and reached its highest level in January.

Environmental pollution not only affects urban life, but also affects rural areas. Waste from industrial facilities is reducing environmental quality in rural areas.

"Industrialization, urbanization and modernization of agriculture are the main causes of environmental problems," the report argues.

Chinese leaders are deeply aware of the urgency of environmental issues. A few days ago, China's Minister of Environmental Protection announced that Beijing would raise the anti-pollution standard, encouraging people to use clean energy and establishing warning systems to monitor the smoke.
