(Artinthecity.net) The third research station will be built at Dome-A, the highest point in the South Pole, at 4,093 m above sea level.
According to Wang Lianzhong, vice president of the Center for Polar Region Mapping Project in Heilongjiang Province, the station will be used as a base for Chinese scientists who will study the evolution of This continent and the impact of changes in this ice on global climate.
Wang said Chinese scientists will map the ice cap and soil beneath the ice cap, and based on that, choose the location of the new research station in the next 4 years. It is expected to be completed before 2010.
China established its first scientific research station on King George Island in 1985, and built its second station on Larsemann Hill in 1989. So far, the scientists have carried out a series of surveys and research on biology, ecological environment, weather, sea, atmosphere in the Antarctic region .
