China built two more research stations in Antarctica

China is completing its fourth research station and plans to establish a fifth research station in Antarctica, to expand its presence on the ice continent.

According to China Daily, China is completing the construction of its main research station in the South Pole, known as Taishan. It is expected that the research station will be completed next year.

Taishan research station is built in Princess Elizabeth Land area, at an altitude of 2,621m above sea level. The main building of the research station will be built with the architecture as a traditional Chinese lantern. Taishan will be used in the summer to serve geological research, glaciers, earth magnetism and atmospheric science.

The first Chinese expeditions began to set foot on the ice continent since 1984. The nation's first research station was established in 1985. To date, China has built three research stations at Antarctica include Great Wall, Zhongshan and Kunlun.

Nearly 30 countries around the world have built research facilities in Antarctica, including the United States, Russia, Australia, Britain, France, and Argentina. In which Argentina is a country with 13 research facilities. Russia has 12 research stations, the US and Japan have 6 and 5 research stations respectively.
