China found 7 million years old bird fossils

The Hezheng Animal Fossil Museum in Gansu Province, northwestern China on August 19 said it had discovered the intact fossil of a bird dating back more than 7 million years.

Mr. Chen Shanqin, deputy director of Hezheng Museum said this is the first intact bird fossil found in the province.

Mr. Chen described this as a fossil of a struggling bird with wide-spread wings and close-fitting legs.

In terms of the geology where the bird was turned into fossils and other animal fossils found earlier, Mr. Chen concluded that the fossil could be dated to more than 7 million years.

However, Mr. Chen also said that archaeologists still need to research more about which family this bird belongs to.

According to Chen, archaeologists have now discovered more than 30,000 ancient animal fossils in the region and surrounding areas, including species such as 3-man primitive horses, elephant-eating mammals, or hairy rhinos dating back 2.5 to 30 million years, but this is a rare bird.
