Clouds contain gems covering the planet

British researchers discovered a solar system outside the solar system surrounded by minerals-rich clouds creating rubies and sapphire stones.

HAT-P-7b, Earth's planetary planet 1,048 light-years, has clouds filled with raw materials to form ruby and sapphire , Mirror led research by scientists on December 12. in Nature Astronomy.

Brilliant clouds on the HAT-P-7b are thought to be made of corundum , the second hardest mineral after diamond. Corundum is so durable that it is not affected by acids and most types of environments. Ruby and sapphire are the red and green corundum minerals.

However, British scientists concluded that it was impossible to exploit gemstones on HAT-P-7b because the planetary atmosphere had a temperature of nearly 2,600 degrees Celsius due to its proximity to the parent star 26 times more than the distance from Earth to the Sun.

The planet HAT-P-7b is 16 times larger than Earth and 40% larger than Jupiter. It took two days to spin around the star mother twice as big as the Sun. Through analysis of light reflected from the planetary atmosphere, scientists found that the brightness of the HAT-P-7b changed with the wind speed. At the strongest speed, the equatorial airflow pushes large clouds across the planet to partially cover the light from the parent star.

According to Dr. David Armstrong, astrophysicist at Warwick University, England, the head of the research team, HAT-P-7b is influenced by the constantly fluctuating strong winds, which can lead to violent cyclone storms. bouncing. This planet is not suitable for settling down due to extreme weather and extreme temperatures. One side of the planet is always directed towards the parent star so it is much hotter than the other half.

"The planet has clouds containing sapphire and ruby stones. But it is bigger than Jupiter and very hot, so we can never reach it. Strong winds in Jupiter, Pluto and Hai Wang cannot match. with on this planet, " said Dr. Armstrong.
