Clouds like ocean waves rolled in the sky of America

The clouds look like waves in the skies of Colorado, America formed between two air currents with different direction and movement speed.

According to CBS Denver, Stacy Nicholson and Skip Wood captured images of wave-like clouds in the sky of Breckenridge, Colorado, on October 30, when they were on their way from Minnesota state. Both said that they had never seen anything like that before.

This phenomenon is called "unstable cloud Kelvin-Helmholtz" . It is named after two scientists Lord Kelvin and Hermann von Helmholtz.

The cause of this phenomenon is the wind breaking in the atmosphere (the type of wind has the characteristic of changing the speed suddenly in a small space, either horizontal or vertical).

"The breaking wind creates waves in the air stream, and when there is enough moisture, it creates a cloud. The results form small curl vortices along the top of the cloud. They are evenly spaced and recognizable. and often doesn't last too long, " said Chris Spears, a meteorologist.

Kelvin-Helmholtz unstable clouds often appear in mountainous areas and create extreme turbulence for aircraft.
