Cyber criminals make more money than drug dealers
The total proceeds from online criminal acts in 2004 have surpassed drug smuggling and are continuing to increase sharply when information technology is deployed in developing countries.
No country can "immunity" to threats from the global network, including Internet spying, child pornography, blackmail, pirated file downloads .
" Last year was the first year of cybercrime revenue was bigger than drug trafficking groups. Their revenue was estimated to reach $ 105 billion, " said Valerie McNiven, an adviser to the US Treasury. " Crime tricks are growing increasingly sophisticated and constantly changing that the law cannot keep up. For example, phishing sites exist only on the Internet for about 48 hours ."
He affirmed the existence of a relationship between Internet crime and terrorism. "However, the more interesting thing is that there is not a solid network security system. The reason is not that we are not capable but because of the lack of funding," McNiven admitted.
Other threats are continuing to expand on the network: trafficking and depraved publications. Developing countries lacking safe virtual financial systems are also becoming gold mines for control and exploitation crimes.
