Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria are often found in environments, such as sewage, soil and human skin. This type of bacteria usually does not cause any problems. However, it can be dangerous for people with weak immune systems, such as the elderly, sick people and young children.

About 3,700 - 4,000 people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland had skin infections from Pseudomonas bacteria in the period of 2006-2010. They were mostly elderly and children under 1 year old.
