Decipher the mysterious halo before the earthquake

Scientists have shed more light on the mysterious spherical halos in the sky that are thought to be 'earthquake light' that foretold an imminent earthquake.

For example, a few seconds before the terrible earthquake occurred in L'Aquila (Italy) in 2009, roadgoers saw the halo on Francesco Crispi boulevard in the center of L'Aquila.

In 1988, a pink-purple ball of light moved in the sky along the St. River. Lawrence near the Canadian city of Quebec and 11 days after this phenomenon, a powerful earthquake happened here. In 1906, a couple saw light flows along the ground in the northwest of San Francisco (USA) two nights before the earthquake destroyed much of the city.

'Earthquake light' often appears on or near the crust of the Earth's crust before the earthquake occurs. This conclusion was made after scientists analyzed 65 of the earthquake light scenes recorded in the US and Europe in the 1600s. Specifically, 85% of earthquake light appears right above or near broken lines.

Geologist Robert Thiriault of the Canadian Department of Natural Resources said: 'Earthquake light - a phenomenon of earthquakes along with other signs like seismic activities could one day predict a strong earthquake '.

Earthquake light is depicted in different shapes and sizes, but most of them appear like a large sphere of light. They can stand or move in the sky or as a fire rises from the ground.

Because they appear before and at the time of the earthquake, scientists think that the earthquake light is formed in relation to the process of geological changes in the cracks in the Earth's crust.
