Detecting the monk statue in rare marble
Egypt hopes these findings will boost tourism.
Egyptian archaeologists have discovered the statue of a lion head of a lion in marble in the Kom Ombo temple , the southern city of Aswan, as he carried out the work to protect the temple ruins.
The Sphinx is discovered in Kom Ombo temple.
The statue may have been from the Ptolemaic period.
According to Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said the statue may have been from the Ptolemaic period. The Ptolemaic dynasty ruled Egypt for about 300 years - from about 320 BC to about 30 BC.
Egypt hopes these findings will boost tourism by visiting artifacts when the country's tourism industry is heavily affected by the 2011 political violence.
This discovery comes after archaeologists found one of the oldest villages ever in the Nile region of Egypt - with relics dating back to the Pharaohs.
Archaeologist Frederic Gio said his group had found places to store bones and animal food, showing the human residence as early as 5000 BC in the area. It was about 2,500 years before it was built.
Earlier this year, Egyptian archaeologists discovered the tomb dating back 4,400 years, most likely to belong to a woman named Hetpet who had relations with the ancient Egyptian royal family of the 5th dynasty.
