Detecting tooth toads, frogs clinging to rare yellow spotted stone in Lao Cai

Among the 11 amphibian species discovered in Bat Xat Nature Reserve (Lao Cai), there are 2 rare and precious species: toothed toad and frog with yellow spot.

On April 28, Mr. Ngo Kien Trung, Head of the Management Board of Bat Xat Nature Reserve (Bat Xat District, Lao Cai), said the survey and research program of foreign experts in the Reserve. Bat Xa t has discovered 11 amphibian species.

Researchers have noted the presence of the extremely endangered species of Oreolalax sterlingae, which has been included in the 2017 Red Book list, through tadpole samples collected on an altitude of 2,300m. This is a former amphibian species that only recorded 2,800 m altitude at Fansipan peak.

In particular, this is the first time that scientists and foreign experts discovered in Bat Xat Nature Reserve have species of frog with yellow spotted stone Amolops splendissimus . This species was once considered to be one of the most beautiful frogs in amphibians.

According to Mr. Ngo Kien Trung, amphibian species were found to be distributed in the area of ​​Pu Ta Leng mountain, belonging to Trung Leng Ho commune (Bat Xat district), the area with the height of 1,900 - 2,700m compared to the water level sea. Of the 11 species of amphibians discovered, there are 5 species of the frog family, 1 species of official frog family, 3 species of frog family, 2 species of tree frog family.

The survey and research program of foreign experts in Bat Xat Nature Reserve is coordinated by Hoang Lien National Park (Lao Cai). Along with rare and precious animal species discovered, published and collected scientific data, it opened an opportunity to attract the attention of world scientists, develop international cooperation in research survival of amphibians in Lao Cai province.
