Rabies in civets can come from bats.
The virus was discovered after experts studied a baby who was bitten by a civet. In the past, civets were thought to be immune to rabies.
Genetic tests show that this is a rabies virus that has never been described before, but it is similar to the rabies virus from bats in the Caucasian region of Eastern Europe.
Scientists believe that the new virus is likely to come from bats and infect the civets and other mammals. More research is needed to confirm the danger of this virus on human health.
New viruses are unlikely to pose much threat to humans like rabies in dogs. However, scientists think we still need to be cautious and pay attention to animals.
