Determination of ink three meters long washed ashore on the US coast

Experts say the squid heavier than 40kg could be female ink and die after laying eggs.

People discovered rare Onykia robusta squid in the south of Cannon Beach, Oregon, USA, on July 28, Fox News reported. The ink is exceptionally large, three meters long and weighs about 41kg. It died a short time and some parts began to rot, but generally quite healthy, Seaside Aquarium said.

Experts at the aquarium took photos, and planned to operate and research to understand the behavior of this animal. They focused on the still-intact part of the squid."The scientific community still does not know much about the life of this giant creature so we are very excited to be able to observe more carefully," said the representative of the aquarium.

Onykia robusta can be up to 4 meters long and is one of the largest squid species in the world. Some of the differences of Onykia robusta compared to the squid in the North Pacific are two sharp hooks at the end of the tent, the length of the fins, the ridges of the body and the huge size, according to the Seattle aquarium. They often live in warm waters in the Pacific Ocean.

Keith Chandler, manager at Seaside Aquarium, said this was the first squid Onykia robusta he saw firsthand. It has two long tentacles and 8 arms, each hand has 50-60 suction cups. Experts believe that this is most likely the female ink has laid eggs."Squid, like octopus, usually dies not long after laying eggs," the aquarium representative explained.
