About 52% of DNA in sperm cells is broken in diabetic men compared with 32% in men who do not have the disease. The amount of semen also decreased significantly in diabetic men, but there was no difference in sperm density, structure and mobility.

Diet and obesity are key factors that increase type 2 diabetes, often in adults. But type 1 diabetes also occurs in both children and adolescents.
