A group of French researchers, led by Hazrije Mustafic of the Paris Heart Research Center, published the information in the journal of the American Medical Association on February 15.
They analyzed the results of 34 studies on the correlation between short duration of exposure to air pollution and the risk of heart attack. The results showed that inhalation of industrial contaminants and traffic such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and soot for about a week slightly increased the risk of heart attack.
"All major pollutants in the air, except ozone, are associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction in the short term," the researcher said.
Although this danger is not as strong as smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, but air pollution is harmful to many people. While cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in industrialized countries.
