Discover a rare American map

A version of the 16th-century map, known as the 'American birth certificate', was found in Germany.

'American birth certificate' , the work of famous cartographer Martin Waldseemueller (Germany), is considered the first document on the new continent.

Historians believe that Waldseemueller only made exactly four maps, but Ludwig Maximilian University researchers in Munich (Germany) were fortunate to find the fifth map, according to BBC.

It was discovered in a book in the nineteenth century whose content has nothing to do with exploration.

Sven Kuttner, who is in charge of the old books at the University of Ludwig Maximilian, said it was a unique map, so far no experts have found a similar map.

This map, painted in black ink on yellow paper, was uploaded on the occasion of the US National Day 4/7.

A larger version is being carefully kept at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.

Mr. Waldseemueller took advantage of information on the first voyages across the ocean to paint the image of America as it is today.

He also named the new land after Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci confirmed that he was the first to discover the new world and not Christopher Columbus.
