Discover many rare plants in ancient caves in America
The oldest conifer tree in North America and some parts of the ancient scorpion are some of the new fossil heritage discovered in a cave in Illinois, USA. The new discovery also finds fossils of plants that science has never known and reveals evidence of prehistoric forest fires.
Scientists identified these samples from 315 million years ago."I've never seen things like this before," said Roy Plotnick, a paleontologist at the University of Illinois, Chicago. "The limestone in the cave is 450 million years old, but that's not the most interesting part. What is preserved inside is amazing."
These are pieces of plants and insects that are carved into the cave and are still intact today. Most of the treasure of this creature exists in the form of coal, so researchers think it is a sign that they were burned in a fire.
The cave can run for several kilometers underground and can bring scientists enough materials to study for many years.
