Discover new dinosaurs in extremely rare places

Stegizards are popular dinosaur groups. They are one of 15 dinosaur groups that existed, found in South Africa, North America, Asia and Europe.

Recently, the oldest species in this group has just been found. They were named Adratiklit Boulahfa and were the first species of this group to be found in North Africa, namely Marocco.

What remains of this species is a few vertebrae and anterior leg bone, found in the Middle Atlas Mountains.

The oldest ancient dinosaur was discovered.

The Stegizards are a long time ago during the Jurassic period and the newly discovered species is the oldest of the group, living some 168 million years ago.

This is the discovery of Dr. Maidment and her colleagues from the University of Brighton, London Museum of Natural History.

Although found in Africa, this new species is closely related to other European species in the group compared to its two relatives in South Africa.

In the age of the Stegizards dinosaur group, the world was divided into two supercontinent: Laurasia and Gondwana . Today Laurasia is the majority of continents in the northern hemisphere while Gondwana is now Africa, South America, Australia and Antarctica.

Stegizards are very popular in Laurasia but very rare in the rest. Therefore, the discovery of new species in this group in Africa will open a completely new observation about their history.
