Discover new plants and animals in Phong Nha and Ke Bang

On May 24, the Project Management Unit in Phong Nha - Ke Bang (PN - KB) and PN - KB National Park held a seminar on two biodiversity surveys in PN - KB and nearby in the year. 2011, implemented by international and domestic organizations.

The survey results obtained four samples of Lao rock mouse ( Laonastesaenigmamus ) in En cave area. This is the first record of the Lao rock mouse in Vietnam - an animal once considered a 'living fossil' 13 million years ago.

The Lao rock mouse and five squirrel species (black squirrel, hairy flying squirrel, black and white flying squirrel, star flying squirrel and buffalo flying squirrel) are all in danger of extinction.

In addition, scientists also recorded eight new species for PN - KB such as red tail lizards, big ears toad, and sa pa .; discovered a new bat species, Ichthyophis sp, frog species, some insects .

About plants discover one more genus and nine new species for Vietnamese science and flora.

At the workshop, scientists made a recommendation on the conservation of PNKB plant and animal species in terms of poaching and environmental changes in the habitat of these species.
