Discover new species in Phong Nha - Ke Bang

Accordingly, two Vietnamese botanists Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh and Nguyen Nghia Thin (Hanoi National University) have described and announced a new species for science belonging to the castor family (euphorbiaceae) on The Gardens' Bulletin Singapore. .

The new species is named Phong Nha with a full scientific name Mallotus phongnhaensis Thin & Kim Thanh.

This tree was found in Doc Te area (belonging to the administrative service subdivision of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park) in 2006. It is primarily different from other mallotus species in that : shrubs up to 1 m tall, leaf blades have 6 - 12 subcircles on each side and clusters of flowers growing in the stem, bearing little flowers (10-15 male flowers).
