Discover some rare bird species in Phong Nha - Ke Bang

On November 15, Phong Nha - Ke Bang Heritage Management Board (Quang Binh) said, within the framework of the project 'Conservation and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in Phong Nha - Ke Bang region, Vietnam' , scientists BirdLife has conducted biodiversity surveys of bird species within the extended area of ​​Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park in the territory of Thuong Hoa and Hoa Son communes, Minh Hoa district.

The survey team discovered 159 bird species, of which five are endangered on the bridge, two are at national level. Three of the seven species with narrow distribution have been recorded in the "Central Lowlands Endemic Bird Area" including the long-beaked babbler Jabouilleia danjoui, the ebony rocky stachyris herberti and the macronous kelleyi chew. The ebony rock babbler is the only species recorded in another location in central Vietnam, the Dakrong Nature Reserve, but with small populations within a narrow range. The cheek-cheeked species is a species with a narrow distribution area observed in Mo O area, Thuong Hoa commune.

This is the first record of this species for the Ke Bang Important Bird Area. Phylloscopus calciatilis Phylloscopus calciatilis species in two locations in Thuong Hoa commune. This is a completely new species described and published by science.

Both the ebony and limestone babbler are the only species that live in limestone forest habitats and they are found only in a few places in Vietnam.
