Quang Binh: Successful propagation of rare and precious Hue trees
Hue is an extremely rare timber species, found only in the limestone mountains of Phong Nha - Ke Bang. For many years, Hue trees have been identified as extinct due to illegal hunting and exploitation. Recently, the Center for Scientific Research and Rescue of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has successfully propagated by cuttings and seeds.

About 1,800 seedlings successfully propagated are the recognition of engineer Vo Ba Phong and his colleagues for more than 3 years, because in economic terms, Hue is second only to incense. In addition to succeeding in cuttings in combination with growth regulators to create scar tissue and elephant foot tissue to stimulate rooting and cell division, the engineering team has expanded its work to date. seed by seeding method.
Engineer Vo Ba Phong - Chairman of the project said: "We have experimented with sowing method to see, germination efficiency of seedlings is very high. Seeds in mother trees 2-3 years old have billions. germination rate is higher in 1 year old mother plants, at present, the source of seeds is very difficult, but the germination rate in the experimental plots that we have just synthesized to more than 80% - is very positive. " .
According to the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Research and Rescue Center, the current source of Hue wood in the territory of Vietnam has almost been eradicated by illegal exploitation of loggers. 1m3 of Hue wood products costing about VND 500-600 million before being exported to Taiwan and Hong Kong, made this species (used as a flavoring and coffin embalmed) be hunted aggressively. Currently, smugglers of this type of wood are making very high prices for the remaining source of Hue wood in Laos. A rare and precious species conservation project is being considered and implemented to protect biodiversity in Phong Nha - Ke Bang area.
Also according to Engineer Vo Ba Phong, Hue trees are suitable for many areas, especially hills in Phong Nha - Ke Bang area and buffer zone communes . Some households have planted their seedlings to grow well, 5-year-old trees have a diameter of 5-10 cm. In the future, the Center will put this plant into cultivation and there will be longer-term regeneration programs.
