Discover the smallest leaf lizard in Vietnam
Researcher Ngo Van Tri (Department of Technology and Environmental Management, Institute of Tropical Biology - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and Dr. Thomas Ziegler (Cologne Zoo, Germany) have discovered new leaf-legged lizards the smallest in Vietnam.
This lizard species has the scientific name AaronBauer - Dixonius aaronbaueri sp. n. Ngo & Ziegler, 2009, was discovered in Nui Chua National Park, Ninh Thuan province. This lizard is named after Professor Aaron Bauer (Villanova University, Pennsylvania, USA) - who is dubbed the 'gecko' of the world.
This is the lizard species with the smallest size found, the maximum length of 3.86 cm, orange-yellow looks very beautiful. This is the fifth lizard species of the leaf-legged lizard that was discovered in Vietnam within 4 years. In nature, this species is relatively rare, currently lizard species are threatened by tourism development projects in the area they live.
