Discover new fingerless lizards in Vietnam

German, Russian and Vietnamese scientists have just announced a new species of fingerless lizard similar to Cyrtodactylus in Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces . The new lizard species is named Cat Tien, according to the location of the first standard sample collected in Cat Tien National Park.

The detailed description of the species was recently published in New Zealand's Zootaxa Magazine July 21, 2009.

This species has the scientific name Cyrtodactylus cattienensis Geissler with a list of the names of scientists who discovered it, Nazarov, Orlov, Boehme, Phung, Nguyen & Ziegler, 2009.

In addition, standard samples of species were also collected in Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve, Vinh Cuu District, Dong Nai Province and Nui Dinh Area, Long Thanh District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province).

Cat Tien Finger-Lizard - Cyrtodactylus cattienensis, distinguished from other finger-lizard species in the world by the following characteristics: body length is relatively small, maximum 69 mm; there is a dark brown ring behind the nape, extending to the back of the eye; The body has 4-6 dark brown stripes and alternating light brown.

The tail of this lizard has alternating 4-12 white and dark brown bars; the nodules on the back were arranged into 16-22 along the body; 28-42 rows of abdominal scales across the middle of the body; no skin folds on the side; the tail is not flat, the base of the tail is not bulging, the scales are arranged into a ring; males have 6-8 holes before the anus are lined up to form an obtuse angle; 3-8 large scales under the thigh; Small round, small scales in the tail.
