Kayan tribe in Pan Pet village (Myanmar's eastern Kayah state) is famous all over the world for women unlike anywhere else on earth with strange long necks wearing copper layer layers.
In Kayan culture, the beautiful criteria for women is to have a long neck.So, they used stacked copper rings to stretch their necks out.
The copper rings made the neck feel long, but the large weight of the brass rings put pressure on the collarbone and chest, making the neck long in this way.
For a long time, Kayan people are still closed, limiting contact with outsiders, only to open to 2014 to welcome visitors.
This new series was taken by Ukrainian photographer Dmytro Gilitukha in late June this year in Pan Pet village, providing a close-up view of the daily life of Kayan's long-necked women.
Dmytro told Kayan women to wear necklaces from a young age.
He said: "Many people think that if there are no rings, their necks will be broken, but in reality they are not. We have seen people put their necks out without being damaged. After about 3 week, their neck has returned to normal ".
There are many theories about why this tribe wears a necklace.The first is for them to distinguish them from other minorities.The necklace is also their concept of beauty and social distinction.
There is also another explanation that is the necklace to protect them against the tiger.When the men hunt, women stay at home and may be attacked by tigers to the village.Women and children can survive if they are bitten by a tiger.
Today, no one of the tribe knows why they have to wear necklaces, but people still keep the tradition from ancient times.
